How to delete your account and data
You own your account. Here's exactly how to close it, what gets deleted, and how long it takes.
Delete from inside the app
The fastest way to delete your My Family Dinners account is from the iOS app itself. It takes about thirty seconds.
- Open the app and go to SettingsTap your avatar in the top right, then Settings.
- Tap AccountYou'll find it in the first group, under your email address.
- Choose Delete accountIt's at the bottom of the Account screen, in red. We don't hide it.
- Confirm with your passwordThis is the only confirmation step. We ask so nobody deletes your recipe box but you.
- You'll get a confirmation emailYour account and all associated data are permanently removed within 30 days. Backups roll off within 90.
Delete by email
If you can't access the app — new phone, lost password, deleted the app already — email privacy@myfamilydinners.com from the address on the account with the subject line Delete my account. We'll verify it's you and confirm once it's done, normally within a few business days.
What gets deleted
- Your account and login credentials
- Saved and imported recipes
- Meal plans, past and upcoming
- Shopping lists
- Dietary preferences, family size, and kid-friendly settings
- Push notification device tokens
What we keep, and why
A small amount of information sticks around after deletion, either because the law requires it or because it's no longer connected to you:
- Purchase records — subscription and transaction records are retained as required for tax and accounting purposes. Apple also keeps its own records of App Store purchases.
- Anonymous analytics — aggregate, non-identifying usage counts that can't be traced back to your account.
- Encrypted backups — deleted data may persist in backups for up to 90 days before it rolls off automatically.
Want your data before you go? Export first. Settings → Account → Export my data sends you a machine-readable copy of your recipes, plans, and lists. Deletion is permanent and we can't undo it.
Cancel your subscription too
Deleting your account does not automatically cancel an active App Store subscription. Cancel separately in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → My Family Dinners. Apple manages all billing and refunds.
